Life Literacy Education (LLE) was founded on the idea that simply teaching students the ins and outs of the American financial system and how to budget is an inadequate approach to teaching financial literacy.
At LLE, we aim to encourage students to explore their passions and help them discover what careers can fulfill them.
We then help students discover the best path towards proper job training to obtain a role in that field (i.e., do they need a trade, community, or four-year college degree to get the job they want).
We also discuss how family planning and an individual’s mental health may affect their ability to obtain job training or a job.
Therefore, we designed this course for a more holistic approach to financial and educational health, allowing students to see that anything that affects one aspect of their life will affect the other.
I am a first-generation college graduate. As a freshman, I fell in love with education after taking Sam McFarland’s Social Psychology class. I knew at that moment what I wanted to do with my life.
I did not arrive at the front of the classroom as fast as I would have liked. I traveled a road that had me jumping from jobs in social services to service industry work, to grad school, back to the service industry, and finally back to where it all began-- the campus of Western Kentucky University.
When I designed Life Literacy Education, I did so with my background and difficult path in mind. I wanted to create a program that taught kids everything I never knew. All so they could avoid the road that I was required to take. As the old saying goes, "everything happens for a reason." I regret nothing about my struggles. If it were not for my path, I would not be in a position to help others.

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, just outside of Vancouver, though I am originally from Montréal. I have lived all over both Canada and the United States.
I have over twenty years of experience as a university professor in both Canada and the United States, as well as experience in higher education administration.
I have also worked a wide variety of jobs in the service industry, construction, retail, non-profits, and academia. I have served as a museum and education consultant. I am President of the Board of Just Roots, a community-based farm that seeks to combat food insecurity and promote healthy eating.
I am a passionate educator. I have seen the power of education from both my own experience and that of seeing my students succeed. I also know that we often need help to get out of where we are from to get where we want to go.
I had the unwavering support of my grandparents, Eleanor and Rod Browne, who helped fund my undergraduate education and were always there to love and support me. I have sought to pay that forward across my whole career.

Hello, my name is Katricia Rogers.
I am so excited to be a part of Life Literacy Education. I currently reside in Frankfort, Kentucky; however, my roots are in Eastern Kentucky.
From an early age, I knew I wanted to work in education, receiving a Bachelor’s
and Master’s degree in the field. I have been a middle and high school math teacher in public schools, along with teaching nutrition education and sexual health
education in the non-profit sector.
I currently own a children’s resale store in Frankfort, however my passion for
education has never left. This is what brought me to LLE.
I have three energetic boys that make me a proud mother.
I love playing sports, and enjoy working on jigsaw puzzles. I’m currently working on a 40,320-piece puzzle.
